Kayla Lewis is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience dedicated to supporting children and families. She earned her Masters degree in Counseling from Springfield College in 2015, where she engaged in international research and training in Kenya, Africa gaining valuable insight into child development, family systems, and mental health across diverse cultural settings. Additionally, during her graduate studies, Kayla created and integrated workshops into local schools focused on self-esteem building, peer relationships and conflict, and social-emotional skill development.
Throughout her career, Kayla has worked in a variety of roles that have deepened her expertise in child behavior, family dynamics, and early childhood mental health. She spent many years as a school-based therapist in an alternative education setting offering therapeutic support for children ages 4 to 15 who faced adverse childhood experiences and challenging family systems. She partnered with educators to create individualized approaches for children in the classroom, ensuring that academic teams could better understand and support children through a trauma-informed lens. Kayla worked closely with parents navigating the challenges of behavioral concerns, family and community violence, and complex family systems .
Expanding her focus, Kayla also served as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant, working directly with caregivers, early childhood educators, and expectant mothers. She helped integrate strong mental health programming into early education centers, ensuring that children from birth to age five had a foundation of emotional well-being. Most recently, Kayla serves as an intensive in-home therapist, providing hands-on clinical support to children and families overcoming adverse experiences and with complex needs.
Beyond clinical practice, her background also includes teaching preschool and helping to develop social emotional curriculum for early learning centers, and a focused passion for empowering children and families in vulnerable communities. She authored the core curriculum for an international nonprofit dedicated to supporting young girls in high-risk environments.
